Securing and Protecting Investments and Capacities for Economic Sustainability in Nepal (SPICES)
Catholic Relief Services Nepal initiated a strategic SPICES (Securing and Protecting Investments and Capacities for Economic Sustainability) program in which The Organic Valley Pvt. Ltd. (TOV) Nepal led a systematic approach to scaling economic growth of rural farmers while maintaining healthy ecosystem.
This project aimed to identify market opportunities and suitable crop pattern (ginger, turmeric) in the existing agroforestry system while also creating a social mapping of the project area.
Under the SPICES project, a series of field consultations, stakeholder interactions, and site assessments were conducted to better understand local farming systems and market opportunities within the agroforestry landscape. The activities conducted through this project engaged farmers, cooperatives, and local stakeholders to identify sustainable agricultural practices and opportunities for strengthening organic value chain development in the project areas with focus on climate change.
